Perhaps you’ve seen the video of the FedEx driver who just the other day did something that is probably going to make his Christmas anything but bright. For whatever reason while making a routine delivery the driver walked up to a house with a gated yard and instead of ringing the doorbell so the package (a large flat screen computer monitor) could be delivered safely he simply tossed it over the fence and walked off. His biggest problem is that people who can afford to build fences around their homes can also afford to install security cameras and one of those cameras captured his disgruntled act for all the world to see. FedEx immediately responded to its customer by replacing their computer monitor free of charge but no public announcement has been made regarding the future of the driver. I believe that future looks very bleak.
This story illustrates a point that more of us need to remember. We are being watched. No, I’m not talking about the jolly fat man who “sees you when you’re sleeping” and “knows when you’re awake.” And while we are being watched by people around us, that is not even our primary concern. Ultimately we must remember that God, the all-seeing God, is watching us, and nothing escapes His view. The Hebrews’ writer records, “Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do” (Hebrews 4:13). And ultimately, the result of God’s all-seeing and all-knowing nature is that “we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that everyone may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10). Ever feel invincible, maybe even ten feet tall and bulletproof. Some people think they can get away with anything. Well, some people may never have to answer for their actions in this life but we all need to remember that we are being watched and one day we will have to answer for everything!
