The Fire With Which They Are Unconcerned

In the last week and a half Muslim extremists have targeted the United States through ruthless and bloodthirsty attacks in Egypt and Libya described by one radio personality as the world being on fire.  The specific reasons for their uprisings have been somewhat skewed by conflicting reports and while it has since been disproved to be true the initial cause given was based on YouTube clips of an unfinished movie that mocks the founder of Islam, Mohammed.  I can only speak for myself but I am against any open mockery of any religion.  People harbor incredibly personal feelings about their religion or else they would not be committed to them.  And when something in which an individual is deeply seeded is ridiculed and openly mocked they usually are not too open to listening to any plausible alternatives at that point.  They become defensive and cannot be blamed for it.  However, my irritation at this moment is not so much the open mockery of Islam as it is the governmental intervention and semi-public outcry.

In the last few days the media has bombarded our attention with cries of foul against any who would be so intolerant as to mock these people of faith.  The White House petitioned Google to review the video clip and to make sure it met their guidelines for publication.  They are all concerned with the fires blazing in the Middle East but you do not see a similar public and governmental response to the ongoing ridicule of Christianity.  How many multiplied thousands of videos exist and have existed for years on YouTube and other outlets that openly ridicule the concept of Jehovah God, Jesus, and creation?  How many books have been written that mock the foundational principles of Christianity?  How many television shows and movies depict Christians as the bumbling idiots of society and blaspheme God’s name for the sake of comedic fodder?  But it is rare that you ever hear of any mass public anger and you never see any governmental response whatsoever.  It seems that while our country will not tolerate the ridicule of the Islamic religion that it is open season on all things pertaining to Christianity.  And where is the outcry from “Christians?”  Are we satisfied with the constant mockery to which our God and our faith is subjected?  This world may be concerned with the fires that blaze in the Middle East but apparently it has no concern whatsoever for the eternal fire that awaits the souls of any who ridicule and ultimately reject Jehovah God.

“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death” (Revelation 21:8).
