An Assault on the Innocent

Since January, 1973 America has been waging war on the unborn.  In what is said was an attempt to get abortions out of back alleyways and unlicensed clinics our government pushed through the Roe v. Wade decision to legalize the extinguishing of innocent life.  While that was bad enough the official policy of the United States government has gone from simply allowing abortions to encouraging them through increased access of public funding to various providers.

However, you might ask what in particular prompted me to go on this particular rant on this particular day.  I am not one to openly discuss political views simply for the sake of mere politics.  However, issues that are moral and social must be dealt with to restore who we should be as a nation.  One thing that I have noticed repeatedly through this election cycle, and many of the last several, is just how sacred abortion is to the social liberals among us.  This became even more abundantly clear to me as I listened to the second presidential debate this past Tuesday night.  In attacking his belief that his challenger has presented no clear plan for how to reduce the nation’s fiscal deficit President Obama specifically condemned any attempt to restrict funding to one agency in particular – Planned Parenthood.

The Planned Parenthood Federation of American is “a non-profit organization providing reproductive health and maternal and child health services” but is also “the largest provider of abortions in the U.S.” (www.wikipedia.com).  However, this all requires money and in 2010 almost half of their $1.05 billion annual budget was satisfied by federal grants and subsidies totaling $487 million.  The argument is made that legally Planned Parenthood is not allowed to use the federal money to actually provide abortions but that is nothing more than a convenient way to mask their actual activities.

Now, back to Tuesday night.  In President Obama’s attacks against Governor Romney’s plan for deficit reduction the president specifically mentioned Planned Parenthood five times in just over forty minutes of talk time (that’s once every eight minutes!) as an example of cuts he cannot possibly see as being reasonable.  My question is this – why is Planned Parenthood such a sacred cow to some of these socially liberal people?  Are there not other clinics or organizations that cannot offer legitimate healthcare to women?  Why is the idea of cutting the funding to one that single-handedly murdered 332,278 unborn children in 2009 so unreasonable?

I have honestly never really understood the reason why politicians and political activists have always viewed their perceived right for abortion with such adamancy.  I understand there is a cross section of our society that views abortion as their way to engage in illicit behavior without the “burden” of its result.  The fact is that there is an assault on the unborn among us, an assault that has been controlled from Washington D.C. for forty years and for our society to regain the majesty it once had it must be stopped!

“These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him…hands that shed innocent blood…” (Proverbs 6:16-17).
