Stability – It’s What We Need!

The past two weeks have been a difficult time to be a Tennessee football fan.  Ever since our head football coach was fired there has been rumor after rumor swirling about one coach coming only to be reported that he either isn’t interested or he’s changed his mind.  Hopes have been high only to be dashed and expectation is built only to be marked by disappointment.  I think the worst part of this whole ordeal from the fan’s perspective is a lack of stability looking forward.  How can we have any hope in a program that we love without a clear fix on who the leader is going to be?  In life stability is everything.  Without it we wander in deep despair, the same type of despair I see displayed in Volunteer football forums everyday.

Life is like that.  There is always something ripping the carpet from under our feet, stripping us the constants that make life bearable.  It’s realities like this that make me glad to be a Christian.  There is no instability in Christ.  We always know Who our leader is and the direction we are going.  Success is promised and the victory is guaranteed.  Paul spoke of Jesus dwelling in our hearts by faith, in whom we are “rooted and grounded in love” (Ephesians 3:17).  With Christ we always know where we stand and with Whom we stand.  There is no greater blessing than that!
