1 Reason the Bible Should Be Accepted As Is

Did you know that some religious people aren’t that big on the Bible?  Sure the nonreligious people hate the Bible.  That’s expected.  It stands against everything they are for.  It condemns their lifestyle and perspective of the world.  But did you know that some religious people don’t like the Bible?

No, it doesn’t make any sense to me other but that is the reality of many people in the religious world.  I read blogs, religious periodicals, books, etc. on a regular basis written both by New Testament Christians and others who call themselves Christians.  Repeatedly I have seen an attitude that has developed particularly among religious folks who have been influenced by a postmodern mindset toward Biblical rule – that is that the Bible is outdated and should be replaced or amended for the 21stcentury and beyond.

This attitude has played partner to attempts from many people in many different ways to discredit portions of the Bible (particularly portions that these people do not like) and as a result change the way that we read, interpret, and accept what the Bible has to say.  But I disagree.

I am big on lists.  Lists are concise and to the point.  But I am also a fan of simplicity.  So I want to give you a list of reasons as to why we should accept the Bible as is for what it is – but I’m only going to give one, not because it is the only one but because it is the only one that we need:

  •     The Bible is the word of God.
Just let that sink in for a second.  The Bible is God’s word.  It is original with God.  It is the will of God.  It is revealed by God.  It is the standard by which we will be judged by God.  It is the written record of God’s law to man.  God.  Who created heaven and earth with the spoken word.  Who is by His very nature eternal, infinitely powerful, limitlessly loving, and full of grace and mercy without measure.  The Bible is His word.  It belongs to Him.  Do we (mankind) really think that we can improve on the word of God?

Ultimately we either accept the Bible and Christianity or we do not.  There is no middle ground that says we can accept Christianity but reject the Bible.  But the even greater question is why would we want to accept Christianity but reject the Bible?  The Bible reveals Christianity.  The Bible provides the blueprint for Christianity.  The Bible gives the hope, which is the basis of Christianity.

Do you believe in God?  Do you want to submit your life to Him and as a result be blessed by Him?  If so then the Bible is your guidebook.  It contains all of the information you need.  If we change it we dilute God’s plan.  To dilute God’s plan is to make it ineffective.  To make it ineffective is to reject it and cause men’s souls to be lost.

Why should we accept the Bible as is?  Because it is God’s word.  Period!

2 Timothy 3:16-17 – “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God, may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”

QUESTION:  What are some additional reasons why we should accept the Bible as is, without alteration or amendment?
